Jesse Williams has been working with wood ever since he was introduced to the craft in secondary school shop class. Since graduation he has worked in several shops, working on custom kitchens, veneering, and fine furniture. He also has his own shop where he designs and builds one-of-a-kind pieces.

Jesse is currently working with Gelinas Carr Furniture Makers and builds his own designs in his spare time. He is strongly influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as traditional Japanese and modern Scandinavian design, particularly the work of James Krenov.

"I take a Zen-like approach to my craft, trying to work harmoniously with my wood and my tools, hoping that the finished piece will reflect the care that went into it. My work is characterized by simple clean lines, flawless joinery, meticulous attention to detail and the use of local woods."

Jesse's submission for the show is built of Garry Oak obtained from the Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild wood recovery program. The legs are joined to the rails with double mortise and tenon joints, where the entire end of the rail is let into the leg. The top is connected to the base with his own version of a traditional Shaker button.
