Sandra Carr and Joseph Gelinas are graduates of the Fine Furniture program at Camosun College. They have been designing and building furniture since 1996. Their complementary philosophy of craftsmanship and aesthetic quality led to the formation of Gelinas Carr Furniture Makers in 2002.

Joseph’s interest in furniture making began with a reading of Nakahara’s Japanese Joinery. He credits the beautiful functionality depicted in the isometric drawings as the catalyst that led him to an exploration of craft and design. Sandra was attending university when she became interested furniture making, and putting artistic and design theory into practice. Sandra and Joseph collaborate on many of their pieces, and take design inspiration from many places: the Arts and Crafts Movement, Japanese and Chinese furniture styles, Art Deco and modern architecture. They specialize in studio furniture, unfitted cabinetry, exposed joinery and exotic wood accents.
