James Weening has been constructing pieces out of wood for ten years, the past four years full-time. He has no formal training in woodworking or design.

His current aesthetic interests are in the flowing lines of Asian works and the use of exposed joinery.

James' entry into Explorations in Wood, "Wine Cabinet", is made of Paduk and Burl Walnut. The upper piece features exposed through-dovetail construction, while the base has a small Burl Walnut drawer with large and small half blind dovetails (houndstooth dovetails) on the front of the drawer face. Ebony was used for the handles. The piece is finished with lacquer.

James owns a studio where he displays some of his current work.
