Yousef Ahadi is a self-taught fine woodworker who has been practicing fine woodworking for twenty-six years. He has always enjoyed working with his hands and making crafts, painting, and pottery. One of his greatest influences is Sam Maloof, who is known for his innovative joineries. Yousef’s works in this exhibit are made of Black Walnut, Maple, and Douglas fir. The works have open joinery and are finished with hand-rubbed oil and varnish.

Yousef draws inspiration from nature and British Columbia wildlife. He prefers simplicity and functionality, and incorporates ergonomics into his chairs.

"When I design my pieces, I am constantly conscious of both human and animal body forms. The stains I use are largely transparent since they enable me to show the real nature of the wood.”

Yousef Ahadi’s works can be seen at the Wood Co-op (http://www.thewoodco-op.com) located on Granville Island, Vancouver as well as on the Greater Vancouver Wood Art Society website (http://www.vancouverwoodarts.com).
