Raymond Franklin has been enjoying fine woodworking for fifteen years. His education includes studies with Ron David during a symposium at Saskatoon and studies in Miller's Dale, England.

His current aesthetic interests include working with a variety of coloured woods and wood grains, using the wood to show off the grain, and building pieces from segments of wood.

Ray's entry into Explorations in Wood, "The Family," demonstrates the use of segments and the beauty of the different coloured woods used in building the pieces. The construction of these turnings also effectively uses the characteristic of the wood grain.

Ray is an active member of the Island Woodworkers Guild and a turners group.
