Cam Russell received a Bachelor's degree in Education in 1980 from UVic and spent time at UBC doing Industrial Education. He can't cite any one specific source as an influence, but he believes a sense of humour is as important in furniture making as it is in life.

The aesthetic inspiration for the pieces submitted to the show is based on late 1920s race cars, which Cam believes to be among the most beautiful of all sculptural creations. "I had a chance a few years ago to see cars of this vintage actually racing and fell in love with the sound and smell of them. They are the totems of my culture. Stories of their drivers have been passed down to me by my elders. Soon the world will run out of fossil fuels, and they will become cultural icons of an era."

Cam owns and operates Coventry Woodworks and can be reached by email.
