Matthew Ashton resides in Sidney, BC and has had twenty-four years of fine woodworking experience. He is self-taught in furniture making, turning, and carving. Much of his inspiration comes from Thomas Chippendale's early work.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of his work is his love of period pieces. In his words: “I seem to be one of a very few here on the west coast who make period furniture reproductions. My work always has a classical look and feel; there isn't a contemporary bone in my body.” His current aesthetic interests include period furniture (pre 1860) and working in mixed mediums such as combining wood and metal.

Matthew welcomes people to contact him if they want more information about his work.
