Bayne's India
Drawings
This collection also
includes drawings Bayne made during his years in India. Most of
these seem to have been made during sketching tours in 1870 and
1883. Some of Bayne's India drawings reflect an interest in the
type of structures he also designed as an architect employed by
the East India Railway Company. Towers and water well structures
emphasize the engineering aspects of his work in India. Other drawings,
such as the elevation and section of the Somnath Gates, and the
Tile Decoration from an old tomb, indicate Bayne may have been planning
a book on ornamental details in Indian architecture.
