Surf Motel (1959)
290 Dallas Road, James Bay
Architect: R.W. Siddall
Built near the
Ogdon Point Breakwater, this is one of Victoria's best preserved modern
buildings in the International Style, combining the Meis Van der Rohe's
minimalist design aesthetic with a studied rational use of industrial
building technologies. Rooms look out on the Breakwater, constructed
over many years 1913/18 from 20 ton blocks of granite.
