Angela Grossman was born in 1955 in London, England.
She received a BA in journalism from Ryerson College (Toronto) in
the 1970's. In the 1980's, Grossman became interested in painting
and completed a programme of study at the Emily Carr Institute of
Art and Design (Vancouver). In 1985, Grossman was included in the
Young Romantics exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery. This exhibit
launched her and the other participating Vancouver artists onto the
Canadian art scene.
Her thought-provoking works are the result of much research and
carry several important messages and comments on society. Recently,
Grossman has explored the situation of forgotten prison inmates
in the series, Correction(s). Like her earlier works, the use of
unconventional supports and materials mark these paintings that
express deeper meaning and inspire a dialogue on issues dealing
with humanity.
Grossman has exhibited with major public art galleries across Canada
and commercially with the Diane Farris Gallery, Vancouver. She has
been the recipient of five Canada Council B Grants. She now lives
in Vancouver and teaches painting and theory at the University of
British Columbia.
