Begbie Building (1980)
Architects: Wagg & Hambleton
Conceived as complex
series of interlocking forms which step back from the Ring Road and
merge with the natural forest on three side, the building uses a warm
red brick faceted finish and recessed window bands to complete this
effect. It houses the University's Faculty of Law. The entrance features
a rustic heavy timbered porte-couchere providing an effective transition
from the naturalized landscaping into the formal lobby. Many of these
elements, and the close attention to finishing detail can be found in
Wagg & Hambleton later HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT BUILDING (1992)
and the two wings of the Business School (1996).
