Beckley Manor (1964)

548 Dallas Road, James Bay

Architects: Buttjes & Rapske

At the time a bold insertion into the James Bay waterfront, this multi-storey apartment block was the harbinger of more to come. Corbusier's rationalism is masked by the brick balcony detailing, but undisputed was the inention at this time that James Bay could could follow the lead of West Vancouver with dramatic highrise densification. The fact that the balconies have not been glazed, as with other city projects of the period, makes this exemplary of its time and style.
