Elizabeth and Terence Williams House (1973)

315 King George Terrace, Gonzales, Oak Bay

Architect: Wade Williams

The steep rocky site falling away from the road snaking its round the outer edge of Gonzales Hill, required a creative solution. The 24ft wide house steps down the cliff face in five cantelevered levels, each by means of skylights or full length windows affording stunning views across Shoal Bay. The spare expression of wall surfaces and structural details, and generous lighting, belies Williams earlier English and Scandinavian training.
