James' Moderne style work was apparently inspired by an exhibition of Bauhaus work that he had seen in on a visit to England in the 1930s. This is one his most sophisticated designs in the style. The asymetrical composition features an inset S curved entrance porch detailed with glass blocks. Plate glass windows on the garden side are oriented for seaward views.
