Godfrey Stephens

Godfrey Stephens was born in 1939 on Vancouver Island and is a self taught painter and sculptor. His distinctive vocabulary is derived from Northwest Coast First Nations art through the influence of Mungo Martin (1881-1962), whom he knew as a child and young man. Stephens has spent the past 40 years traveling the world, building sailboats, and both creating and selling his artwork from “mobile” studios. He currently lives in Victoria and is building another sailboat.
