Duane Pasco
Duane Pasco was born in Seattle in 1932 and grew
up in Alaska. Although non-Native himself, he was fascinated by
the Tenaina indegenous people and absorbed all he could of their
traditional culture. Pasco returned to Seattle in the 1940s and
continued his studies, particularly of the Northwest Coast cultures.
He began carving in 1959 and has been a scholar and practicing artist
since then. He has taught and lectured for decades and many talented
younger artists acknowledge his influence and instruction. Duane
Pasco is represented in major collections of Northwest Coast art
in North America and Europe.
