Late Georgian Style
The Maltwood's “Chest of Drawers” was made in
Britain during the late Georgian period. Late Georgian style
refers to furniture made in Britain from 1760 - 1811, during
the reigns of “mad King George” III and George
IV. The pieces are typically delicate and inspired by Neo-classicism,
which emphasizes verticals, ovals, circles and columns. Mahogany
was the preferred wood. Some of the major designers of this
era were Thomas Chippendale and Robert Adams. Thomas Hepplewhite
was a major figure from 1788 onwards.
