World Tea Party Victoria

An exhibit at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, June 25 - August 29, 2004

Initiated in 1993, the World Tea Party is a continually evolving international celebration of the art and culture of the world’s best-loved beverage -- tea! With previously held events in Venice, London, Ottawa and Vancouver, Victoria is launching its own World Tea Party with an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, accompanied by tea tastings, lectures and other special events. World Tea Party Victoria is a collaborative project of the World Tea Party Society (Vancouver) and the University of Victoria CURA (Community-University Research Alliance) Program.

The schedule of events encompasses worldwide rituals of tea, including Korean, South Asian and First Nations tea, as well as the better-known traditions of China, Japan and England. There will be demonstrations and lectures dealing with tea rituals, tea wares and the history of tea. Additional exhibits and events are planned at a number of other institutions (see end of menu).

All the events, lectures and demonstrations will start at 1PM unless otherwise noted. Free entrance upon gallery admission, unless otherwise noted. Tuesday series on Asian topics presented by the Asian Art Society of Victoria.
