CURA Training Workshop
Introduction to Museum & Archival Practice

This hands-on seminar offered with assistance from the University of Victoria Cultural Resource Management Program was designed to prepare CURA student researchers for positions entailing work with historic collections and primary resources. The program included lectures and workshop sessions by museum professionals as well as site visits to historic Helmcken House and the BC Provincial Archives.

The workshop introduced students to such topics as the care and handling of historic artifacts, the standards and procedures for cataloguing collections and the use of MS Access for collections management. Participants also learned about researching historic photographs as well as the practices of conducting and transcribing oral histories.
