CURA Directors Symposium, University of Victoria
February 28 - March 1, 2001

On February 28 and March 1st, CURA project directors and community partners met at the University of Victoria Senate Chambers to review the collaborative research process and discuss the development of their respective projects. Opening with a round table presentation of each of the projects, the symposium enabled participants to gain a sense of the scope of the CURA program and learn about other research collaboratives.

Issues discussed during the event included the feasibility of individual research projects, the management of the collaborative process, ways of increasing support through collaboration as well as the development of project outcomes. As one of the key results from these discussions, participants recognized the need to communicate effectively with community groups, funding agencies and research partners.

The second day began with an introduction to the CURA on-line collaborative research facility (OLCORF) and a demonstration of the software. In addition, directors had an opportunity to discuss project outcomes with a team of specialists in the areas of educational materials, digitization and web access, public programming, exhibition planning and publications.
