Robert Baxter

Baxter completed a B.Arch at the University of British Columbia in 1960 and since then has pursued a dual speciality in institutional design and heritage restoration. His restoration work has included the Legislative Building, Fort Steele Historic Park, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Craigdarroch Castle, Point Ellice House, Lampson Street and Victoria High Schools. In Victoria he has worked on numerous projects: renovations to Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, completion of Christ Church Cathedral, and St. Andrews high School. His work on the Pacific Forestry Centre with Wade Williams earned a Governor Generals medal. Before locating in Victoria in 1973 he worked in Richmond, Calgary, and Vancouver. From 1973 to 1978 he was associated with Alan J. Hodgson, then until 1983 he was an associate of Wagg and Hambleton. After this followed three years during which he was a partner and project architect with Wade Williams. From 1986-1990 Baxter was a member of the firm Holovsky, Baxter and Mansfield. In 1990 he became an associate partner of the Campbell Moore Group and in 1995 he joined Paul Merrick Architects as partner and director of the Victoria office.
