Art Thompson
Born in 1948 in the remote village of Whyac on the southern end of Nitinat lake, Art Thompson spent much of his life in Victoria. He was well respected not only for his artistic skills, but also for his knowledge of the traditional Nuu-chah-nulth songs and dances. Thompson was also a tireless fighter for all those who, like himself, suffered the abuses of the residential school system. Tragically, he died of cancer in early 2003.
